Halloween
Traditional
"Samhain", the eve of All Saints, is the Irish name for Hallowe'en.
Festivities included a celebration at return of those who had been away
on high pastures with their cattle ~ "booleying".
The 31st of October was also a night when the dead made their presence
felt to the living. Tricks could also be played on neighbours, where
the fairies were blamed for the removal of such items like doors and
gated from their hinges.
