The Crowing Cock

County Galway

Once a man who lived in Galway, was in a field near his house working. Every time who looked towards his house, he could see a coffin descending from the sky. As soon as the coffin reached the March cock inside his house, the cock would start fluttering its wings and crow madly The cock continued this until the coffin was seen to disappear.

The actions of the coffin and cock continued for three weeks. The man's wife hated the cock because of the utter racket it was making.

One fine day, the man noticed the coffin coming down the side of the house as per usual, but this time no sound was heard from the cock, and subsequently the coffin stayed put and hovered above the house. Thinking to himself that something was not quite right, he went into the house, where he found the cock dead.

His wife had shamefully throw a small mallet at the bird in the hope that it would drive the irritating little crow away. But the mallet hit the crow on the head, and sadly killed it instantly.

Her husband cried, "Then you have killed me, too!" The man's prophecy came true, because two days later he also died!
