Abbotsford House - Sir Walter's Study

Sir Walter's writing desk and chair. This desk was a copy made from one at Rokeby, Yorkshire, the home of his great friend, John Morritt, with whom he often stayed on his journeys to and from London by coach. In 1935 two secret drawers were found in this desk, one of which contained 57 letters, part of the correspondence between Sir Walter and his wife before and after their marriage. Sir Walter's letters were printed in The Letters of Sir Walter Scott, edited by Sir Herbert Grierson, Vol.XII, London, 1937.
