Abbotsford House - The Drawing Room

The walls of this room are hung with Chinese hand-painted paper given to Sir Walter by his cousin, Hugh Scott of Draycott.

On either side of the fireplace are air bells. Portrait of Sir Walter by Sir Henry Raeburn, 1809. Sir Walter is represented in full length, seated by a ruined wall with Camp at his feet and Percy, a greyhound, looking wistfully into his master's face. The valley of the Yarrow forms the background.

Portuguese ebony roll-top desk and chairs ta match, given to Sir Walter by King George IV.

In the wall-cases are pieces of silver presented to Sir Walter, including the urn presented by Lord Byron. The urn contains bones found at Athens in 1811.
