The Sketch Galleries

A Picture of the 'Sketch Galleries'

These passages were added in 1834-5. Till then you had to walk from room to room. The collection of Old Master Drawings was hung here till they were found to be fading and were returned to their folios. Now portrats of all the dukes are in these galleries.

The Mortlake tapestries, showing hunting scenes, are late 17th century. The blue and white tulip vases, made at Delft in the 1690's, were filled with water and each nozzle held a single flower.
