The Chapel Passage

Now you are back in the Chapel Passage. The Turkish barge was given to the 6th Duke for his use on the Bosphorue by the Sultan of Turkey in 1839. The two ancient Egyptian statues of the goddess Sekhmet were moved here from the Garden in 1997. They come from the temple of Mut at Karnak and date from the 18th Dynasty (1540-1304 B.C.) On the inner wall hangs the Adoration of the Magi by Paolo Veronese (c.1528-88). The colossal foot, long thought to be a 19th century fake, has now been identified as part of a gigantic Greek statue, dating from the time of Christ. The other foot is in a Berlin museum. In the showcase are presentation keys used at opening ceremonies and on the lower shelves are 18th century toy silver furniture and tableware.
