Dublin, Ireland

The home county of the capital city of the Republic in the province of Leinster. With an area of 355 square miles and a population of just over One Million the county is one of the more densely populated of all Irish counties.

It is mostly level and low-lying but rises in the south to 2,471 feet above sea level in Kippure, part of the Wicklow mountains. The river Liffey enters Dublin Bay.

The port of Dun Laoghaire (pronounced Dun Leary) is the only other major town in the county.

The city of Dublin is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Famous sons of the county include the author James Joyce and the playwright George Bernard Shaw.
