Windsor Castle

THE GRAND VESTIBULE

The Grand Vestibule is the last of the great state rooms of Windsor to be seen in this tour. It is a tall narrow chamber with Strawberry Hill Gothick fan-vaulting and a beautifully displayed collection of Napoleonic arms and relics including the very ball which killed Nelson at Trafalgar and some items relating to Tippu Sahib, Sultan of Mysore, captured during the Siege of Seringapatam in 1799. Just as Queen Victoria presides here in marble under a Gothic wooden canopy, so her uncle, George IV, is seen once more on the way out through Salvin's Grand Staircase.
