Don't be put off by the long climb from the car park. This is by far the best preserved of all the Roman forts along Hadrian's Wall. On display are substantial remains of gateways, barracks, granaries, and ramparts plus a unique 24 seat latrine. The five acre complex once housed one thousand soldiers. The views along the wall can be spectacular.
