In 1273 Rudolf Habsburg (1218-91) became ruler of Germany, founding the powerful Habsburg dynasty. In 1278 he defeated and killed Ottakar of Bohemia at the battle of the Marchfeld. In 1279 he surrendered claims to Sicily and the Papal States.
