BOUDICCA

Boudicca (Boadicea) was the ruler of the Iceni, a Celtic tribe in East Anglia in what is now Norfolk and Suffolk, when the Romans governing Britain demanded that the Iceni kingdom join the Roman empire and ordered Boudicca to be whipped. Led by their queen, the Iceni attacked the Roman forces. They sacked the towns of Camulodunum (Colchester), Verulamium (St Albans) and Londinium (London), killing 70,000 Romans and their allies. But a strong Roman army, led by the Roman governor of Britain, quickly crushed the rebellion and Boudicca poisoned herself.
