BORIS GODUNOV

In 1581, Ivan the Terrible killed his eldest son and so was succeeded by his second son, Fyodor. Boris Godunov acted as regent until Fyodor died in 1598. Then he became tsar. During his reign he waged war against Poland and Sweden. His last years were marked by civil war.
