Brick Tower

Originally built in the mid thirteenth century by Henry III the towered curtain wall was rebuilt in brick, earning its name some time between 1510 and 1520, as the Master of Ordnance's residence. Later that century, Sir Walter Ralegh was briefly imprisoned here when he offended Queen Elizabeth for secretly marring, Elizabeth Throckmorton, one of her maids of honour.

The 1841 fire at the Tower of London destroyed the original Brick Tower and the present one is a Victorian reconstruction.
