Military Service & Rank: Royal Airforce

Yeoman at the Tower Since: July 3rd 1997

Interests & Hobbies: Football, Socialising, Eating out, good white wine

George Brodie is what could be referred to (excuse the pun) as the new kid on the block. Although his track record as a Yeoman Warder reaches back only as far as July 1997 George has already proved to be an integral part of the Body of Yeoman Warders.

Born in Glasgow, George joined the Royal Airforce in 1969 originally as a chef working his way through the years to eventually become Station Caremaster. During his military career he has served in Germany, The Falklands, Ascension as well as doing two hardship tours in Cypress and being stationed in various units throughout the UK.

Since joining the Body of Yeoman Warders George has found his new career extremely rewarding. Much of this is due to his excellent rapport with the visitors to the Tower and a genuine affinity with the Towers history which he admits to still being in the early stages of learning about. But how well is he accepted among the other thirty-eight Warders. I asked him and this is what he said

"There are thirty-nine Yeoman Warders at the Tower of London including myself, the Chief and the Yeoman Gaoler. I was immediately accepted as being one of the fold by everyone and I have to say, the Yeoman Gaoler (Tom Sharp) is one of the nicest, kindest most wonderful human beings I have ever known, and I'm not just saying that because he is standing in front of me.

Living up to his new found title of" Beefeater" one of George's favourite foods is steak, especially of the T-bone variety. On the question of food he told me "I've always been a bit of a social animal with a inkling for eating in good restaurants. The problem is I seem to like everything that is supposed to be bad for me, huge T-bone steaks being at the top of the list closely followed by Italian and Chinese. All this has to be accompanied of cause by a glass of good white wine".

If anybody out there has a favourite eating house that could be recommended George says he would like to hear from you.
