Farquharson
The Farquharson clan were part of the federation of Clan Chattan and
the name originates from Farquhar, son of Shaw of Rothiemurchus.
The clan had several prominent members, one of the first being Finlay
Mor, who carried the Royal Standard and was killed at the Battle of
Pinkie in 1547. The clan formed part of the royalist army of Montrose
and fought at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. They joined the Clan
Chattan confederation, who fought and lost at Preston. The Farquharsons
supported the Jacobite cause and joined their army in 1745, where at
Culloden, Baron Ban was taken prisoner.
Through marriage the Farquharsons acquired Invercauld, and acknowledged
Mackintosh as their chief in a document signed there.
