Fairies Fairy Thorns
In Ireland, the fact that fairies are so plentiful, gives rise to the belief that all fairies are Irish!
A FAIRY THORN is called so because it has not been planted by man, rather it has originated by itself or it has grown on an ancient "rath" (fort).
Hallowe'en Lammas Fair
"Samhain", the eve of All Saints, is the Irish name for Hallowe'en. Festivities included a celebration at return of those who had been away on high pastures with their cattle ~ "booleying". An unbroken history of over 300 years applies to the feast of "Lu", the Lammas Fair.
The Milk Charm The Swan Children
An old woman once lived who had a particularly strange power. By incantation, she had the ability to draw milk to herself from cows. Man, many years ago, there lived a chieftain called Lir. He had four children ~ a daughter named Fionnuala, a son called Aodh, and twin boys by the names of Fiachra and Conn.
