The Royal Victorian Chain

This award is given to those held in high esteem by the sovereign.

Edward VII who instituted the award, conferred it upon at least 26 people. Their number included Kaiser Wilhelm II and his son, Crown Prince Wilhelm, who both received the Chain before 1914 but were deprived of the honour during the ensuing war. Amongst current holders of the Royal Victorian Chain are The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon and Lord Coggan and Lord Runcie, former Archbishops of Canterbury.
