The Order of the Thistle (K.T.)

No real proof exists about its foundation, but some historians believe that the Thistle, sometimes known as the Order of Saint Andrew, was established in the 9th century by an ancient Scottish King. Support for their theory was given when James II revived the Order in 1687, stating that the Thistle was not being instituted as a new order, but that a very ancient Companionship of Knights was being revived.

Membership was small, consisting of only twelve Knights. It has now been enlarged and the Order includes the Sovereign, other members of the Royal family and sixteen Knights.
