Royal Red Cross

First Class: Members (R.R.C.)
Second Class: Associates (A.R.R.C.)

Instituted by Queen Victoria in 1883, some believe at the suggestion of Florence Nightingale, solely as an award for women.

Now the Red Cross is awarded to deserving men and women in the Nursing Services. It is also given to those outstanding in their care of the sick or wounded of the Armed Forces.
