Military Cross (M.C.)

Founded by George V in 1914 to reward Army Officers below the rank of Captain for gallant and distinguished service in the face of the enemy. Further amendments allowed it to be awarded to higher ranks and personnel in the other services when operating on the ground. It is now awarded to officers and soldiers.
