An Outline of Heraldry in England and Scotland

We have one of the oldest hereditary monarchies in the world, our Queen can trace her descent from the Saxon dynasty of Wessex in the 7th century. Many families can prove descents from those families who have made our country great and the records of their pedigrees and coats of arms are meticulously preserved by the Queen's Heralds, either at the College of Arms in London or in the case of those of Scottish decent in Lyon Office, H.M. New Register House, Edinburgh.
