Leitrim is to be found in the province of Connacht and is bounded to the North West by Donegal Bay.

Covering an area of some 591 square miles with a population of 28,000 the county is predominantly agricultural with potatoes, cattle, linen, woollens, pottery, coal, iron and lead all being listed as major commercial activites.

Phyiscally Leitrim is dominated by the four rivers of Shannon, Bonet, Drowes and Duff.

The administartive capital of the county is the town of Carrick-on-Shannon.
