Antrim, Northern Ireland

Antrim The home county of the capital city of Northern Ireland, Belfast.

Northern Ireland is also known as Ulster.

Covering an area of some 1,100 square miles and with a population of over half a million Antrim has the highest population density of any county in Northern Ireland.

The county's most famous feature is the Giant's Causeway which is comprised of natural hexagonal basalt columns, believed, in legend, to have been built to enable giants to cross between Ireland and Scotland. Antrim is the closest county to the mainland of Great Britain in geographical terms.

The county produces potatoes, oats, linen and synthetic textiles.

Not without it's troubles in the past Belfast and the county of Antrim are now enjoying a term of peace and new found prosperity.
