Powis Castle is situated near the market town of Welshpool.

Powis doesn't look much like a medieval castle, thanks to the extensive Elizabethan renovations and the planting of Italianate gardens, which give it more the appearance of a luxury villa, but the twin towers of the old gatehouse date back to the 13th century.

Powis is also notable for its collection of artefacts relating to Clive of India as well as priceless paintings and tapestries.
