Lancaster Castle
Lancaster Castle, Lancaster - Although much of the castle has been rebuilt in comparatively modern times, the place continues to exude a wonderful medieval air. Stroll through the imposing John of Gaunt Gatehouse, make your way up Castle Hill and then start exploring the 11th century keep and Hadrian's Tower, which dates from 1200. Finally, take a look at the dungeon cell where George Fox spent another spell under, lock and key, the place is still used as a court-house and prison.
