Bodiam Castle

Britain's most picture-perfect castle (albeit a ruined shell), Bodiam is a rectangular masterpiece of gigantic curtain walls with four huge cylindrical towers in each corner, surrounded by a deep moat that's now home to waterlilies and swans. Built in the late 1385, it was laid waste during the Civil War and later restored by Lord Curzon, who described it as "the most fairy of English castles".

The castle has a storybook appeal. Inside although a ruin , some of the floors have been replaced in the towers and it is possible to go right to the top to enjoy impressive views. Children will love climbing the spiral staircases, crossing the battlements and the adventure of discovering nooks and crannies, whilst the special atmosphere of the castle with its chapel and Great Hall off the courtyard will appeal to history lovers. Bodiam Castle is everyone's dream of how an enchanted castle should look like!
